Since it is very easy now days for a person to get their hands on technologies, the psychology field had to start dealing with issues like "internet dependency" or "cyber-dependency". Some people are lost in the virtual world and real world. People stay on the technology and it cause them to lose social ties and gain new ones but only online usually not person to person. There was a study done by Pew Internet and American Life Project in 2012 that claims in the United States the age group 16-24 average 50-60 text message a day. I believe that the numbers are higher than that, because as I look around my world I noticed that there are lots of teenage with phones and they are not very responsible at times. There is also the possibility that they can be posting comments on Facebook, using snap chats, replying to Twitter, or etc.

The younger group use much more technology than the older group of people because it is in some of kids mind they can't live without their phone, tablet, computer, play stations, and etc.
The usage of technology can be one of the effect that children aren't getting better grades. It can be a distraction to them when they are doing homework, or preparing for tests.
Can we teach children proper usage of technology in their life? The internet is all around us in today's society and if you don't have one you might be considered a left out. When kids are younger and they develop a tendency of staying on their technology for as long as they want they can easily become "attached"or addicted. There are no right age to give a children their first technology, no right ways to start out their technology usage (when parents aren't around to monitor).
The ways that can prepare a children to start their contact with technology is by telling them what it does, set time limits (make sure to take away if violate the rules), have open talks with them when need to, don't be the one that set bad example or give to them without thinking.

  1. I like your topic that we need to concern about children proper usage of technology. When children are playing the technology such as smart phones, Ipads, or computers they are disconnect to the real life and waste time. And how old is enough to give them? Also, we need to limit the time for them. I also heard from the other opposing viewpoints about using the technology. They said by the technology both of children and adults can connect with the world, they can update the newest news around the world at anytime and anywhere. For children in high school, their parents can check or call them by using the smartphones. But anyway, I agree with you. I think parents need to consider their children to use the technology.

  2. As someone who I internet savvy, and grew up in the age of dial-up internet. Having access to so much technology has really opened doors to so many things. The friends I’ve made on forums, the things I’ve learned on databases and libraries. The shows and documentaries that I have watched on online streaming services. But you are right, we can get too dependent on technology too much. I have freaked out every time I have misplaced my mobile phone. And I believe that it is the case because we have placed so much dependence on technology. In my phone, I have immediate access to my friends by text/phone call or any other communication application. I have access to my insurance information within a few seconds, as well as my e-mail which I use extensively. And it is that dependence on technology that I feel can cripple us when something dramatic happens, like the power going out and now there is no internet service, or cellular service. It is something that will bite us in the butt hard when something much more dramatic than a short-term power outage occurs.
